Maynilad spends P 291M for pipe replacement in QC

West Zone Concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is investing P 291 million to replace over 36 kilometers of old, leaky pipes in the northern portion of Quezon City.

The pipe replacement project will improve water pressure for almost 13,000 customers in Barangays Fairview and Batasan Hills once completed in September this year. From only 7 psi (pounds per square inch), water pressure for these Maynilad customers will increase to 16 psi, which is strong enough to bring water to the third floor of a house without need for a pump.

Replacing the old pipelines will also enable Maynilad to reduce water losses in the area and recover some 70 million liters per day (MLD) of potable water—a volume that can supply the daily requirement of some 120,000 households.

For 2017 alone, Maynilad aims to replace a total of 328 kilometers of old pipelines in various points within its concession area, particularly in Quezon City, Navotas, Valenzuela, Pasay, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas and Cavite. The water company has allotted a budget of P2.7 billion this year for its Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Program which includes pipe replacement projects.

“There is a need to sustain investments in the rehabilitation of deteriorated pipelines in the West Zone, as this will help to further enhance water supply reliability for our customers,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
